2012 USATF 10K Trail National Champion to Make Half Marathon Race Debut at the 2013 Half Moon Bay International Marathon

Half Moon Bay, CA – The organizers of the Half Moon Bay International Marathon (HMBIM) today announced that David Roche, the 2012 USA 10k Trail Running Champion, and his fiancée of one month, Megan Deakins, will be making their debut in the half marathon distance at the 3rd Annual HMBIM on Sunday September 29, 2013. Roche is sponsored by Inov-8.

Roche will be traveling from Washington, D.C. where he is currently engaged in a fellowship on public interest environmental law at the Environmental Law Institute. Deakins, a Stanford Medical School student and an accomplished runner herself with four recent wins in the San Francisco Bay Area, will reunite with Roche for the first time since they were engaged in August 2013.

New Marathon Addition Geared for Children

The third Half Moon Bay International Marathon is just 11 days away, and this year’s race will inaugurate the “Just Run” 5-kilometer run in an effort to encourage fitness among local kids.

“Just Run” is a free Web-based program that combats the “alarming rise in childhood obesity” measured nationwide, according to the program’s website. Seventeen percent of California’s adolescents are considered obese, which is three times the rate experienced a generation ago, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Half Moon Bay, CA – The Half Moon Bay International Marathon (HMBIM) today announced that the 2012 men’s and women’s champions will be returning to defend their title at the 2013 event. The 2012 overall winner, Kimberly O’Donnell will join the men’s winner, Ryan Neely, at the starting line of the event to be held September 29, 2013. Both athletes also set new HMBIM course records in 2012.

Changes afoot for HMB Marathon

Eric Vaughan is not stressing though the Half Moon Bay International Marathon is little more than three weeks away.

There are still last-minute details to take care of as Vaughan and his staff of volunteers prepare for the Sept. 29 races. But, overall, all is quiet and calm as those preparations for the marathon, half-marathon and 5K run are coming together nicely.

Entries are now closed as 1,200 runners have signed up to take part in one of the three races, which will be run along the Coastal Trail.

Cancer Support Community of Delaware Selects the Half Moon Bay International Marathon for 2013 Destination Fundraiser

Each year since 2002 the Cancer Support Community of Delaware organizes a “Strides for Hope” team of runners and walkers who raise funds and awareness for the organization.

“Every year we pick a destination to do our race, and for 2013, we selected the Half Moon Bay International Marathon,” said Susan Dubb, Special Events Director of the Cancer Support Community Delaware.
