Renowned long distance runner to be featured at HMBIM Events
Half Moon Bay, CA – The Half Moon Bay International Marathon (HMBIM) today announced that U.S. Olympic Marathoner and Ultramarathon Champion Magdalena Boulet will be the Special Guest Elite Athlete at the 2016 Events. Boulet, who competed at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Games, and was the 2015 Female Champion of the Western States 100 Ultramarathon, will be on hand to greet HMBIM runners the day before the race, and on Race Day as they cross the finish line.

Southern Route Bridge Closure Continues - Organizers Devising New Route
Half Moon Bay, CA -- The Half Moon Bay International Marathon (HMBIM) today announced that the 2015 event will not be held, as organizers continue to focus on a dramatic adjustment to the current course. The existing course, used for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 events, has been truncated due to a lengthy bridge closure, and Race Organizers are continuing to work on significant course redesign and necessary permitting.
"We set the table with home-run events in our first 3, sell-out years, and we decided to use 2014 to retool for the 2015 event," said Eric Vaughan, HMBIM Executive Director. "At the beginning of the year this was still very much a work in progress, and with no option to even use the previous course, we decided to withdraw the 2015 date now so athletes can plan their running schedule. Building on the success of the Race beginning with the inaugural event in 2011, we are determined to both expand the number of athletes and increase the claim to "26.2 Miles of Running Heaven" through our new course design."
The 2013 event brought athletes from 44 states and 6 countries to the charming, Coastside area of Half Moon Bay, contributing over $1.56 million in direct and economic benefit to the area, as measured by the Kent State University Department of Economics.

The race, which just concluded its 3rd successful event in 2013, will not be held in 2014. 2013 HMBIM Contributes $1.56M to San Mateo County Economy
Economic Impact Study by Kent State University Measures Benefits from Influx of Athletes
Half Moon Bay, CA – The Half Moon Bay International Marathon (HMBIM) today released the results of an Economic Impact Study conducted by the Department of Economics at Kent State University which outlined the impact made by the 2013 event. The Study showed a total of $594,312 of direct spending by athletes, and another $973,823 in generated indirect spending, with 75% of the 2013 athletes having travelled from outside San Mateo County. In total, the 2013 HMBIM total economic benefit of $1.56m generated an employment impact equivalent to 21 full-time jobs.

Don Wright started to cramp late in his run during the Half Moon Bay International Marathon on Sunday, so he slowed to a walk.
He did complete the race, finishing 15 minutes later than he would have preferred.
In the grand scheme of things, the cramps were not much of a problem. Cancer will give you that kind of perspective.
