Fog blanketed the 2nd annual Half Moon Bay International Marathon the entire day Sunday but that didn't stop hundreds of runners from enjoying "26.2 Miles of Running Heaven" from Pillar Point Harbor along the coastal trail.

Boyfriend and girlfriend pair, Ryan Neely and Kimberly O'Donnell, started and finished the Half Moon Bay International Marathon side-by-side at a time of 2:53.58.

Half Moon Bay International Marathon Director Eric Vaughan spent weeks considering the details of Sunday’s second annual race. He was at Pillar Point Harbor at 3:30 Sunday morning, three-and-a-half hours before the first race, just to make sure everything and everyone was in place.

More than nine hours later, as the last of the marathon runners were finishing, Vaughan handed out the awards. He was still excited and inspired by the runners. Exhaustion would have to wait.

Dean Karnazes celebrated his 30th birthday in 1992 by having a few drinks and going on a little run.

In fact, following the bender in a bar in San Francisco, Karnazes says he ran all the way to the 7-Eleven store in Half Moon Bay.
