Half Moon Bay International Marathon

The HMBIM is an event we've created to benefit the Coastside in many ways, and it is being staffed by volunteers who share the vision and excitement of putting together an event which will grow and return each year. This is a contribution to our community in many ways--from the direct contribution of over $1 million in hotel, restaurant and shopping revenue in 2012, to the creation and sponsorship of a FREE family 5K event for 100+ athletes! Add to that the thousands of dollars in permit fees to city, county and state organizations and revenue to support personnel, the HMBIM is making a tremendous difference to the Coastside and greater Bay Area economy.

In 2012 we built on the incredible momentum of our 2011 event. The first year was a resounding success for the entire Coastside, and that was only because of the more than 200 volunteers who showed up to ensure we made our community proud! For the 2012 event, we added additional team members and were blessed with over 325 volunteers from around the community.

Not only did we contribute economically to our commiunity, our eco-focus on making sure the event was a GREEN event earned us the distinction of Gold Certification by the Council for Responsible Sport in our very first year!

Director of Hospitality	Works with local hotels and other lodging sources to establish special discount programs. Makes arrangements for any accommodations for guests, featured or elite athletes, or any other special arrangements. Works with Pasta Feed Director to ensure a successful event. Medical Director	Sources and coordinates all medical personnel, including ambulance, paramedics, doctors and local first-aid resources. Course Director	Responsible for mapping the course, measuring the course if necessary and ensuring the quality of the course is sufficient. Director of Volunteers	Use various methods to recruit volunteers for pre-race activities and race-day activities. Director of Aid Stations	Determines aid station supplies required, works with partners on obtaining supplies, works with Director of Volunteers for staffing, sets up, monitors and tears down all aid stations. Director of Marketing	Responsible for all marketing communications. Develops press releases, works with all media, ensures brand and marketing of event is consistent. Posts to social media to keep all parties up to date. Works with Web Director to ensure Web site stays current. Responds to email and possibly phone requests from runners regarding the race. Forwards emails to other directors as appropriate. Works with Executive Director on email blasts. Director of Awards	Determines the type/number of awards, decides how to handle distribution and coordinates award ceremony. Director of Safety	Works with safety/security personnel, determines event security and safety needs and oversees all activities on event day including coordinating road closures and traffic needs. Director of Merchandise	Works with apparel vendor (Brooks Running) to obtain quantity of shirts and any other apparel for logo merchandise.
